The third iteration of Xiaomi’s popular Mi Band series has been so widely anticipated that reports show that more than 600,000 pre-orders have been made for it.

The company is now in its 4th year of making smart bands and with each release comes significant improvements over its predecessor.

What improvements, you ask? Let’s start with the screen. At 0.78inches, it’s a tad larger and is capable of displaying 128×80 content at 193 ppi density. Not only does this make it easier for the Mi Band 3 to be read, but it also makes navigating its menu and interacting with it easier overall.

The material that makes up the band itself is thermoplastic elastomer, which is known to be the one of the best types of synthetic material that is safe and friendly on the skin. This allows it to win certification from the European RoHS society, proof of the level of quality on the materials used on the device.

The Xiaomi Band 3 can withstand a beating and survive most harsh scenarios.  It has a waterproof rating of 5AM, which means you can go dive with it for as deep as 50 meters.

Another noteworthy upgrade is the device’s 20-day battery life,  a significant improvement over it’s older sibling. Thanks to its 110 mAH battery, you wouldn’t have to worry much about charging your Mi Band 3 on a weekly basis.

NFC is also included in the device which means you can use it for contactless payments, a ubiquitous method of payment in China. With a simple hover of the Mi Band 3 over the vendor’s NFC reader, you can complete a transaction in less than 3 seconds.

And here’s the best part: Xiaomi is selling the device for a mere $27. That’s right. The Mi Band 3 is actually cheaper than the box of pizza you paid for the other day. That’s why it does not come as a surprise that this product is have been getting hundreds of thousands of pre-orders.

And I only expect things to turn better for Xiaomi in terms of sales of its excellent Mi Band 3.
