Xiaomi Mi 8 SE: First Smartphone to Debut with Snapdragon 710
Mi 8 Special Edition is the first smartphone to release with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor.
This Thursday, XIaomi jumped to introduce its new top-of-the-line smartphones. We are talking about the new generation of its already famous “Mi”, that now arrives at the versions “Mi 8” and “Mi 8 SE” – a cheaper option and with somewhat less powerful hardware.
The Chinese manufacturer had prepared a small surprise in the form of an almost identical Mi 8 mobile but with a much more compact size and everything is said to be a more humble internal specification. The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is a mobile with a more adjusted price that is included in the premium mid-range.
Design and screen
This version of the Mi 8 Special Edition is the first smartphone to release with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor.
The new Xiaomi Mi 8 SE has a slightly different design than the Mi 8. First of all, we have a 2.5D glass that gives the device more rounded edges. However, in the corners, it is squarer. The ‘notch’ is still present, and Super AMOLED technology is maintained. The size is reduced from 6.21″ of the standard Mi 8 model to more compact 5.88 inches.
The screen resolution is FHD+ of 2244 x 1080 pixels and has a density of 423 PPI. The aspect ratio of this model is 18.7:9. The brightness is 600 nit (HBM) and 430 nit (Typ). It also supports infinite color temperature adjustment, standard mode, and HDR screen.
The screen ratio stands at 86.12″ and Xiaomi promises that we are in a device similar to that offered in the 5.2-inch phones.
Inside we have the new Snapdragon 710 processor, a chipset that is close to the 800 range, although at the GPU level it is one step behind. The CPU has 8 cores and operates at a frequency of 2.2 GHz. As far as the GPU is concerned, it comes with the Adreno 616 that operates at 500 MHz.
We are accompanied by 4GB and 6GB versions with fixed storage of 64 GB. The battery is slightly reduced to 3,120 mAh.
What about the photographic section? We have a 12-megapixel rear camera plus a secondary 5-megapixel camera powered by the same artificial intelligence that we have in the flagship.
For the front, the 20-megapixel camera is maintained. The rear camera supports AI, Dual camera portrait mode, Monochrome Temp, Flash dimming technology, High dynamic range adjustment, Panorama mode, Burst mode, Facial recognition, and much more.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE comes with Bluetooth 5.0 and predictably next to MIUI 10 and Android 8.1 Oreo.
Versions and price of the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE
The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE has a much more competitive price than the standard version of the Mi 8, since at the end of the day it is a model with less power. It will be available in white, blue and pink colors for a price that clearly fits in the mid-range.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE (4GB/64GB) will cost about 1799 Yuan (about 240 euros) and the 6GB/64GB) will cost 1999 Yuan (about 269 euros).
