Oukitel Mix 2 Review: unboxing and first impression
Have you noticed how the Chinese manufacturers have started to release smartphones with “S8” in their names? Now also “Mix 2” seems to be a trend. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Vernee Mix 2, Doogee Mix 2 and now Oukitel has just released its smartphone called Mix 2. All focus more on the quality / quantity of display offered, while trying to minimize the overall size of the smartphone. Let’s take a first review and look at the main features of Oukitel Mix 2 together.
The package is an essential cardboard box in black, with only the main specifications indicated on the back. Inside, the Oukitel Mix 2 comes with a transparent silicone case, an instruction manual, a charger and a Micro USB cable.
Oukitel Mix 2 has a glossy glass design, available in two colors: black or blue. The body is slightly larger than the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 – although the dimensions of the screens are the same.
There are not many elements on the front panel, only the front camera, the flash and the proximity sensor. The rest of the area, ie 92% of the front panel, is occupied by the display.
On the back side is the dual camera and the fingerprint scanner; while at the bottom, there is the USB connector and the two perforated grids for the loudspeaker and the microphone:
On the left are the buttons to turn on and lock the smartphone, and volume adjustment. On the right there is a slot for the two SIM cards (both in Nano format) and the support for MicroSD card up to 256 GB.
Above the 3.5mm audio jack for headphones:
Overall the phone feels robust in the hands and the assembly is good, no flaws.
Only drawback is that the glass chosen for the backside needs continuous cleaning: after 1 minute with the phone in your hands, the entire surface is dotted with fingerprints. Maybe just put a cover and do not think about it anymore …
Oukitel Mix 2 has a 5.99-inch display with an 18: 9 format. It has a resolution of 2160 by 1080 pixels (FHD +).
The frames are slightly visible along the edges, but in general, it looks good.
Only note, we found the maximum brightness of the screen a bit low, which can make it difficult to use under direct sunlight.
Oukitel Mix 2 is equipped with three cameras: dual rear camera and single front sensor. The main camera on the back has a 16-megapixel sensor (interpolated at 21-megapixel) and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. In addition, there is an LED flash and you can record 4K videos.
The front camera has an 8-megapixel sensor (interpolated to 13-megapixel).
As for some software modifications, Oukitel Mix 2 includes various shooting modes, such as Face Beauty, Blur, Mono, Panorama and PRO.
The Oukitel Mix 2 is powered by an octa-core Mediatek Helio P25 processor, pairing with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. If it is not enough, Oukitel Mix 2 supports microSD memory cards up to 512 GB . (see all technical specifications further)
Obviously, the Helio P25 chipset is not the Snapdragon 835, used in Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, but it can provide good performance:
Although obviously the performance of use is more important, the numbers do not lie. With normal use, the hardware is sufficient for smooth and comfortable usability with most applications. The performance of the ARM Mali-T880 MP2 video chip is not as good as games with important graphics, but in everyday use is not a problem.
Oukitel Mix 2 has on board Android 7.0 Nougat as an operating system, with no frills or customizations added by Oukitel.
Oukitel Mix 2 arrives with a large 4080 mAh battery. That’s sufficient for 8.5 hours of continuous play and 8 hours of high resolution video. Surely it manages to survive a long day! Moreover, the Oukitel Mix 2 also supports fast charging 9V / 2A.
Oukitel Mix 2 vs. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2
Oukitel itself released videos comparing Xiaomi’s Mix 2 and Oukitel’s Mix 2 on its official YouTube channel. For example, showing the different materials used, ceramic or glass.
Where they are certainly similar is on the display, with both devices offering a 5.99-inch screen with a FHD + resolution. Take a look at these two comparison videos Oukitel Mix 2 vs Xiaomi Mix 2:
