New Redmi Go – Xiaomi’s First Android Go with 1GB of RAM and 5-inch Screen
It’s been less than a week since Redmi Go leaked the web, and now Xiaomi ends the mystery and officially unveils its new device. The handset comes with Android Go , the version of the system dedicated to more basic handsets, and looks at the incoming market with only 1 GB of RAM.
The launch of the new Redmi brand from Xiaomi seems to be heating engines, and after the Redmi Note 7 that exemplified the separation of both lines, we have the second launch here. A Redmi Go that had been leaked several times and that is not only the first Android Go phone from Redmi but the entire Xiaomi catalog.
A phone built, like all the phones that are associated with Android Go, to offer just enough to be functional but without any excesses. Let’s see what this new phone from Xiaomi’s global catalog provides us.
Entry level spec
The new Redmi Go of Xiaomi appears with the basics today to be considered a smartphone. It is a way of speaking, but it is appreciated from the moment we break down your brain. A Snapdragon 425 at 1.4GHz that is accompanied by 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory, with a slot for microSD that supports cards up to 128GB.
Android Go occupies very little space, and the apps that we can use are limited. The phone enjoys a 5-inch LCD screen with HD resolution and 16:9 aspect that gives it 1,280 x 720 pixels and that, according to Xiaomi itself, with 380 nits of brightness and 1,000:1 contrast ratio.
In the cameras, we stumbled upon 8 megapixels in the back, an f/2.0 lens and LED support flash that supports HDR natively and whose sensor has pixels of 1.12 microns. On the front, we have 5 megapixels with an aperture f/2.2 and also with pixels of 1.12 microns. The phone does not have any fingerprint reader.
In terms of connectivity, we will have Wi-Fi to connect to 2.4GHz networks, 4G in each of the two SIM cards it supports, Bluetooth 4.1, and a micro USB 2.0 port. The phone has dimensions of 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.35 mm and a weight of 137 grams and will be available in black and blue colors.
Versions and prices
With a single version of storage and RAM, the Redmi Go that will hit stores will be the variant of 1GB and 8GB, apparently without future variations, although this is not official. Available in black and blue colors, the Redmi Go starts to be sold in Europe in February for only €80. It has not yet been confirmed when the model reaches other markets.
With this, the Chinese brand is committed to the Android version created for phones with more basic features, after betting on Android One in the Mi A1 and later Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Redmi works as an independent division since the beginning of the year, when Xiaomi decided to separate it from the parent company.
