MEIIGOO Note 8 Review: unboxing and first impression

0

Chinese smartphone makers are certainly not known for their originality. In fact, they often copy the main features or the design of the most famous phones; and lately they also call their models as the best known brothers: S8, Mix and so on …

MEIIGOO has decided to do both: not only has the design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, but has also called the smartphone with the same identical name: MEIIGOO Note 8.

Let’s see together if the MEIIGOO Note 8 can hold the comparison or at least keep up the reputation of the namesake.

Unboxing

The MEIIGOO Note 8 even has a similar package of Samsung Note 8 – a black the box with the ‘Note 8’ in blue. We put them together to show you how much they look alike: on the left the MEIIGOO package and on the right the Samsung one:

But back to MEIIGOO Note 8, the box looks really premium and on the back there are the main specifications:

Inside we find: the charger, a USB Type-C cable, a transparent cover, a screen protector film and an instruction manual in English:

Design

The body of the MEIIGOO Note 8 is made of lightweight plastic which should have a mirror finish, but which ends up being covered with fingerprints without reflecting anything. It is available in three colors: black, blue and gold.

The smartphone joins the new trend of phones from the borderless display, with the use of 3D curved glass screen for the front.

On the back, you will find the dual camera with a 13MP main sensor (16 MP by software interpolation) and a second 5 MP sensor, arranged horizontally.

On the same line, to the left of the camera, there are the Dual LED flash and the fingerprint reader and then, a little lower down, in the middle is the company logo label:

On the sides, you’ll find the standard buttons, the volume buttons and the lock button (both on the left side), and on the right there is a button for the camera that will allow you to take photos much faster

The dimensions are 15.93 x 7.58 x 0.83 cm and weighs 188 grams.
The charging port (USB Type-C) is always on the bottom, together with the speakers and the 3.5 mm audio jack:

The SIM card slot (which can hold 1 Micro SIM card + 1 NanoSIM card) is curiously on the top:

Display

The MEIGOO Note 8 sports a 5.99-inch IPS screen that occupies 90% of the front and has Full HD+ resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels):

With a density of 403ppi and the screen-body ratio of 18: 9, the images and videos on the screen are defined and the colors sharp. Furthermore, it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass glass, offering good protection for a smartphone in this price range.

Performances

Like most of the Phablets, MEIIGOO Note 8 adopts a 1.5GHz Octa-core Media Tek MTK6750T processor that is absolutely nothing comparable in terms of performance at the Samsung Note 8!
The Mali-T860 MP2 2-core ARM GPU makes it fast and effective, although it is not the best phablet on the market. But if we take its low cost into account, it is quite good. In terms of memory, this phone has 4 GB RAM, which allows you to run several applications without major inconveniences. It has a 64 GB ROM that can expand up to 256 GB via external memory cards.

MEIIGOO Note 8 is equipped with the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. Besides, from the point of view of security and data protection, we find not only the fingerprint reader but also Face ID for facial recognition

Its 5 MP front camera incorporates the Face Beauty 3.0 option.
