Honor Magic 2: The Most Complete Honor Phone to date?
The Chinese smartphone maker has ended months of teasing and rumors by officially introducing the Honor Magic 2, its first sliding screen smartphone. A phone that can also count on a muscular configuration.
After knowing the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro of Huawei, the sister brand of the Chinese manufacturer presents its own flagship. It is the Honor Magic 2, a high-end mobile that repeats several of the technologies that we have already implemented in the high-end Huawei.
At the end of the day, they share production lines, and it is not strange that the two closely resemble each other. We are looking at a mobile phone with a large AMOLED screen, inside we find the Kirin 980 processor, and for the first time within the Honor brand, we have a triple camera and an integrated fingerprint reader.
The list of innovative technologies introduced by this Honor Magic 2 does not end here since it also offers a sliding front camera so you do not have to bet on the ‘notch’ and comes with the ultra-fast 40W charging.
Let’s get to know it closely because it is one of the complete high-end terminals to date.
The Honor Magic 2 repeats design with respect to other models of the brand such as the Honor 10. We have a smoother back and where colors and gradients have been implemented, lighter at the top and darker below.
The body of Honor Magic 2 is made of glass, and the total weight reaches 206 grams. A considerable amount considering that we have only 3,500 mAh battery.
But if there is a remarkable element is that sliding front to expose the front camera. With this technique, Honor leaves the notch and manages to offer an all screen mobile. Specifically, a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. A device whose edges are really small and the screen ratio manages to exceed 90%, a theoretical amount that if fulfilled would make the Honor Magic 2 one of the best optimized mobile phones in the market.
Inside the Honor Magic 2, we have the new Kirin 980 processor manufactured in seven nanometers and with double NPU. A chipset that we have already had the opportunity to try and offers excellent performance. Accompanying this new brand processor of the house, we have versions with 6 or 8 GB of RAM LPDDR4X.
For storage, we have a base configuration of 128GB that can go up to 256GB. Regarding the super-fast load, there is a power of 40W with the Super Charge 2.0 system. According to the theoretical data, with an adapted charger of 10 volts and 4 amps, we will be able to charge up to 85% of the capacity in less than half an hour. Another section where this Honor Magic 2 would be in first line battle with other Android phones.
At the software level, the smartphone has Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.0, an update that adds password manager and improves battery management. There is Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, NFC, USB type C, WiFi 802.11ac, GPS, LTE and a fingerprint reader integrated under the screen with a total area of 32.48mm. And if we need more biometric security, Honor Magic 2 also allows you to unlock your mobile with facial recognition.
Triple rear and front removable camera
For the photographic section, there is a triple lens system in the back, very similar to the one we saw with the P20 Pro. The camera layout is located vertically, in the upper left corner and with the flash and two sensors in the same place and a separate third, next to the AI Vision logo.
In the main sensor, we have 16 megapixels with an aperture lens of f/1.8. Same configuration but with 24 megapixels for the secondary and a third of 16 megapixels and aperture f/2.2 for wide angle. The Honor Magic 2 will allow us to perform optical zoom with your camera, as well as wide-angle images.
In addition to the capabilities of the sensors themselves, artificial intelligence will also allow detecting different scenes to reduce noise, improve colors and optimize results for night photography.
The front camera, we have a sensor of 16 megapixels accompanied by two other sensors for a 3D facial unlocking, similar to what is found in the Mate 20 Pro.
