Xiaomi iHealth Thermometer: Unboxing
Temperature measurement done with an ordinary thermometer is a time-consuming task. Measuring takes a long time and the results are often inaccurate and difficult to read. What’s more, there are still old mercury thermometers in many homes, which are posing a serious threat to health when broken, especially to children. Luckily Xiaomi has a smart solution for you: an electronic, precise, contactless and easy-to-use thermometer for the entire family. See our unboxing and discover its features.
Xiaomi iHealth Thermometer: Unboxing
Xiaomi iHealth box
Typically for GearBest, the parcel arrived quickly, in less than 2 weeks from one of GB European warehouses. The package came with a small white cardboard box with a thermometer inside. There are some technical data printed on the box, such as the measurement range and accuracy.
Inside you will find manual, additional booklets, two AAA alkaline cells and of course iHealth itself. Unfortunately, the manual is entirely in Chinese, but it shouldn’t bother you much, because it’s extremely easy to use. Before putting the device into work, insert the batteries into the compartment at the rear and remove the protective foil. And that’s it – you can now instantly measure body temperature.

How it works?
Standard, obsolete contact thermometers work by using liquid thermal expansion phenomenon. The higher the temperature, the more the liquid (alcohol or mercury) inside the thermometer expands, which raises the bar visible on the scale. Such thermometers are, however, obsolete and have many disadvantages: they are not very precise, it’s easy to make mistake in result readings, they heat up slowly, so you need at least a few minutes to obtain the result and they are not hygienic. A few people using the same contact thermometer can easily transfer an infection between them, like a cold or flu.
And that’s not the case with Xiaomi iHealth thermometer, which removes all these drawbacks. It works by using an infrared sensor that detects changes in radiation emitted by a body that releases heat. Infrared radiation emission is then scaled in Celsius degrees and displayed on the LED display. This efficient method of measurement means that you just have to aim it at the forehead, press the button and literally in one second the temperature will be displayed on the screen. Simple and effective!
Xiaomi iHealth measures the results with a resolution of 0.1 degrees Celsius (it is possible to switch to Fahrenheit for US users), and the accuracy is 0.2 degrees in the range of 35 to 42 degrees Celsius, or 0.3 degrees in the range of other temperatures, guaranteed by a CFDA certificate. Ambient temperature sensor compensates measurements for external temperature. This is much more precise than the conventional contact thermometers, and this accuracy has been achieved by using top infrared sensor from the renowned German company Heimann Sensor that makes equipment for medical and industrial devices.
Appearance and operation
Measuring is extremely simple: just bring the thermometer to the center of the forehead at a distance of about 3 cm, push the button and the result will be displayed on the LED display. If a horizontal line is displayed, it means that you should try again. iHealth features a motor that vibrates with correct reading, so it does not emit any sound, and you can regularly measure the temperature of a sleeping person without disturbing him or her.
iHealth is powered by two 1.5V AAA batteries (included in the box), which can power the device for up to 3000 measurements. It’s so energy-efficient that you won’t have to replace it more often than once in a few years.
Xiaomi iHealth is a smart thermometer for the whole family that should be in every home. It’s easy to use, measures quickly and accurately, and its contactless operations makes it difficult to spread germs. Just try it out and you’ll never want to go back to the obsolete touch thermometers!
