Lenovo Yoga S940: Ultra-thin Premium Yoga Laptop Comes with 4K HDR Screen
The new Yoga S940 from Lenovo, the display frame is rounded as the smartphone. In addition, smart functions should make everyday business easier.
Lenovo launched the Yoga S730-13IWL at the IFA, followed by a more expensive high-end model at CES. The new Lenovo Yoga S940 gets a larger 13.9-inch display, which is much brighter and now offers the 4K UHD resolution, it also supports HDR.
At IFA 2018 in Berlin, Lenovo announced a major relaunch of its Yoga brand C930. From now on, yoga should no longer stand only for convertible laptops, but also for standard premium laptops without tablet functions. The first model was the Lenovo Yoga S730-13IWL, an extremely thin mid-range laptop.
The next step happened at CES 2019, as Lenovo launched the first washable high-end Ultrabook under the Yoga brand, which is not a convertible. The first model appears under the model name Lenovo Yoga S940.
Greater user comfort
The main distinguishing feature of the cheaper Lenovo Yoga S730-13IWL is the Yoga S940 display, instead of a 13.3-inch screen, a slightly larger 13.9-inch panel is used, just like the convertible model Lenovo Yoga C930.
The Lenovo Yoga S940 is going to become one of the jewels of this 2019. A futuristic laptop that flirts with artificial intelligence and even with our eyes. One of the features that stands out the laptop from other is the option to use the look to bring content from the screen of the laptop to a monitor or block the contents when we are looking the other way or even detect if someone is spying on our back.
In addition, it is also a first-class multimedia notebook, thanks to a 4K screen with 4K resolution and Dolby Vision and a Dolby Atmos surround audio system. And all with a really slim body of only 1.2 centimeters thick and 1.2 kilos of weight.
A futuristic camera
Beyond the design and technical characteristics, if something stands out, the Yoga S940 is for its futuristic proposal. It is not the first time that you try to go this way, as we saw a few years ago with some HP models, but the idea has matured in the hands of Lenovo with its infrared camera capable of capturing the movements of the look.
Among the most interesting things that allow us to do, we have the option of sending the contents of the laptop’s desktop directly to a monitor that we have connected with the movement of the look.
It will also facilitate the unlocking of the computer with a simple glance. Although more interesting still seems the fact that the session is automatically blocked when we look elsewhere. So, there is no problem going to have a coffee or take a break without having to worry about suspending the computer manually. The camera can detect at any time if someone is trying to snoop on the screen behind us.
Laptop to work and enjoy
Perhaps the most curious thing about the Lenovo Yoga S940 is that it lives between the functions that we have seen more typical of the professional environment and its possibilities as a multimedia team.
The model incorporates a 14-inch screen of IPS technology with 4K resolution (four times more definition than Full HD). Besides, it is compatible with the HDR contents that have Dolby Vision certificate so that we can enjoy more vivid and true-to-life colors on platforms such as Netflix.
The brightness of this screen is up to 500 nits, a figure comparable to that of many high-end smartphones, which ensures we can see the contents both at home and bright light.
A Dolby Atmos surround audio system that promises a good experience is also added to this screen. It is clear that it will never be comparable to a good speaker system, but it is an excellent addition to play and watch music and movies.
Design and power
Next to the screen and the camera, we must also highlight a very careful design. The company has worked to keep this laptop in a body that is thin and light enough to be easy to transport. Specifically, we speak of fineness of just 1.2 centimeters and a weight of 1.2 kilos.
Lenovo has worked to reduce the frames of the screen to the minimum level so that the equipment is as compact as possible and can be moved without problems in a backpack.
As per the specification, Lenovo Yoga S940 sports eighth generation Intel Core processor, along with an 8 GB or 16 GB RAM according to the chosen configuration. As for the internal memory, one opted as expected for a PCIe type SSD. This ultrafast memory can be of a capacity of 256 GB, 512 GB or even 1 TB in the most powerful configuration.
Wi-Fi 802.11ac is included for connectivity, as well as two USB-C Thunderbolt ports, 1 USB-C port with first-generation USB 3.1, which is also used for charging.
In terms of battery, Lenovo gives two figures according to whether we use the 4K resolution or a humbler Full HD resolution, which can be more than enough to deal with day to day work. According to the data of the brand, it is capable of holding time of up to 7.5 hours with 4K and 15 hours in Full HD resolution.
Pricing and availability
To enjoy the Lenovo Yoga S940 will have to wait until next May. Its price will start at 1,700 euros in the most basic configuration. In short, this is a model that draws much attention for its infrared camera and artificial intelligence options.
